Power of the Phone

Oh the power we give our phone

Our lives we no longer own
So afraid we are of being alone
We have offered our minds to “APPLE” on loan
Whether we be young or fully grown
We are being silently trained to become a drone
Believing we are smarter with our clever smart phone
We have lost our interest in conversation to hone
Losing connection with ourselves, Tom Betty and Joan
More interesting and less scary is setting a new ring tone
The problems we used to resolve in person, education, healthcare,
the diminishing ozone.
Now, we turn to our devices and on social media we type out a moan.
This is no longer a small problem, it has become an issue full blown.
We no longer talk out our problems face to face-we do it using a headphone.
Our emotions are confused, we may feel something deeply and yet we type monotone.
Instead of using our voices, we implement an angry emoji rather than bemoan.
We are losing our practice of interfacing face to face.
We are in the process of losing a societal backbone.
The future requires us to participate in person, or we will be overthrown.
There is much we need to participate in and navigate together the unknown.
We need the young, the old, and the nearly grown!
Our future is unfolding, let not our human involvement postpone.
