Enraptured by the Device

Enraptured by the device

We no longer think twice

Of paying full price

It’s become as common as rice

No longer considered a a vice

for the phone in our hands that we never excise

To be attached 24-7-we’re skating on thin ice

Unaware are we of the sacrifice

To forgo the entire cake of human connection

For a remarkably thin slice

A decimal fraction to be precise

We’ve lost so much to these tiny containers of magnum gneiss

We say we’ve got more freedom

But we’ve got our heads in a vise

Fancier contraptions they use to entice

Promising our lives a little more spice

but we are losing the capacity to simply be nice

Only having time for messages so concise

We forget that there is a vast difference in being precise

We spend our nights

In leggings or tights

Like little Experimental mice

Denying the maze where we have lost our rights

and blind  to what we sacrifice

From staring at the tiny letters and bright lights

Its use for utilitarian purposes -may need to suffice!

What will it take to reconfigure our paradise?

More than a simple roll of the dice!

Will we need to put up some fights?

Or simply head outside and fly some kites

Can we follow the wisdom of our own advice?

These are the questions I ponder when I am away from my device!
