Why are we so afraid of our light?

Why are we so afraid of our light
Why do we put up such a fight?
Why do we believe that our salvation comes from doing it right?
Why do place such power in things that are within plain sight?
Why does the possibility of our light…
Give us such a fright?
We push against it with all our might..
Living our lives wound up so damn tight!
When all our spirit craves is to be free like a kite?
We wait for permission day and night
We ask ourselves..who are we to be so bright?
Even though it’s our god given birth right!
Given all of our beauty, wisdom and insight
And regardless of our flaws and in spite
Of not being perfect and not always polite
We want nothing more than to reunite 
With this love inside of us that we push away-
Even un-requite
With this aspect of ourselves…our inner light
How about we allow ourselves some delight!
