We treat ourselves like a perpetual DIY project
As though we need to fix every imperfection and defect
Like we are not good enough as we are
Therefor needing to incessantly correct
Every internal and external aspect
Our sense of self we subtly and not so subtly reject
The kind compliments we manage to deflect
Instead we focus on the one in a hundred
We seek out the negative-its what we expect
We forget that we are all the same –
From this truth we must never forget
And remember to internally and externally connect
And our love we must direct
To our hearts and souls -not only our intellect!
We take our insides and we project
It on to someone else’s outside-
this our happiness does affect
How do we think someone else will love and accept
All the parts that we fail to respect
We must begin to on a daily redirect
Our focus to what we normally neglect
Do things that even we don’t expect!—-
Believe in magic…
the kind that all kids know how to detect
I don’t mean the kind in a movie-the special effect
The kind of wild love we all require-unchecked
No matter our language or our dialect
How about we redirect
All the self criticism, shame and guilt
And do a massive course correct?
Our souls and essences require us to protect
Our sense of SELF that we have for decades kept
Under the radar of criticism or abandonment
We modify these selves-allowing the world to infect
Our true nature-and then we bisect
Ourselves into parts and parcels that others might accept
Forgetting that we need to be the one who chooses us first
Our alignment with our own being-the real prospect!
Let’s for a day disconnect
with all that divides and separates us
And spend the time to reconnect
with all the beauty inside and outside of us all.
Let’s recollect, and re-collect
All parts of ourselves..every aspect!
Inviting all parties to inter-connect
Be careful who you select as an architect!
Choose wisely the thoughts and beliefs you inject!
We are so much more than a self improvement project
Let’s choose love as our main subject!
