Eligere means “to choose” in Latin. For me, the word evokes a lightness, a freedom, giving a new meaning to “freedom of choice.”

Permission for your mission
Do not look to others for permission to live out the unique mission of YOUR life!
Martyrdom is dumb
What is the point of martyrdom? Why settle for just a crumb, When you own the entire queendom? You deserve the full income Not simply a sparse sum Why are we to succumb to having less because we are a mum? We provide for those around us, a place to grow, flourish, become, ensuring for […]
Comparing is a form of violence
How many times a day do we silently— or not so silently— think to ourselves, “If only I had…” “If only I could…” “If only I could be more like her, like him, like them,” Anyone but ourselves. Such self-condemnation. Imagine saying this to your best friend. Or your child. “Why don’t you have more […]
Limits are my new goals
Funny changes are happening. I was raised on “do more, try harder, and strive for the best.” This ethic landed me in my health crisis. Push… against whatever is in your way. Be stoic. My new pace
My new pace is no longer a fast-paced race I do not need first place in order to find my true PLACE. I no longer humour in my tail to chase. Nor in my pocket do I hide the Ace To pull out when too tired to face my life. My protective can of mace […]
The guilt room
Women. We are funny creatures. We live with so much guilt. We eat, drink and bathe in our own guilt. Things going your way? Just got a new raise? Bought a new house? Wrote a new book? Celebrate! But first, have some guilt. A big helping of pure guilt. “What will THEY think? What about […]
Type A and the Titanic
I have been fascinated by the Titanic for a long time. My great-grandfather had tickets to cross the Atlantic with his family on its maiden voyage. He was unable to wait for its completion and took the earlier boat— the one that was unable to make it back in time to save the sinking ship. […]
