Success

Allowing the world to determine our success
Causes an enormous amount of stress
And creates corresponding duress.

This is an issue for us all to address

I have bought into this mess
I most humbly confess
This pattern will surely continue unless
We collectively express
Our dissatisfaction with material success
And our illusion of rapid progress.

We believe what’s printed in the press,
Our image on social media we persist and obsess 
We give the external the power over the internal, I guess.

Our true desires we stubbornly repress.
As we continue to future forecast and finessee.
We place our achievements on a platter for the world to bless.
Our sense of self, we acquiesce.

Our collective spirit in distress.
We mask the smoke signals of our SOS.

We are being played on the life -game of chess,
Allowing others to determine our worthiness

It’s time we put on our own headdress
Stop working so hard to impress

Our intrinsic value we repossess
In our collective spirits’ keynote address.

We are all granted inherent noblesse
I crave this freedom I profoundly profess.
