We’ve never been more connected and yet alone
For this double sided truth I attribute the phone
Towards this device…we our energies hone
We share public spaces wearing a headphone
And even the occasional microphone
A behaviour that I used to bemoan
I now find myself walking some days
Listening to music in my “earphone”
Something five years ago..I would not condone
It’s hard to be truly connected when
We are in the “phone zone”
We can be physically together ..but as Esther Perel says
Ambivalently absent..in essence..on our own
Together, and yet alone
Present in body-absent in corazon
We have become more attuned to the tone
Of our phone.
Than we are to the facial expressions and gestures-of the person in front of us…be it Joan, Malone, or Tyrone
The phone quickly replacing the friends we have known
Why not just get a clone?
How many real conversations must we postpone?
In order to respond to endless comments from senders unknown
Whether you live in the valle of the rhone. Or the bois de bologne
This has become a “phonedemic”
A mental health epidemic full blown!
My views can make me feel like an old crone
What will it take for a phone..
Revolution?
Will the next generation be able to dethrone..
Our over dependence on this device of plastic
And semi precious gem stone?
At the current rate of product replacement..
We are hurting the ozone!
Will we find new ways to reconnect
Where we can be together again.. having outgrown
The need for likes, approval, and the dopamine hormone
We are losing our sense of innate perception and intuition
Remember SNL and the heads of the cone?
So much more to be transmitted and transmuted
Homegrown
We don’t get more time in our lives
They are not on loan
Our lives are ours to live-full blown!
